Bedfordshire haulier and pallet network member News Transport has called in the administrators, just weeks before Christmas.

The family-run company, which can trace its roots back to 1969 and is now on to its third generation of owners, filed papers to appoint insolvency experts RMT on 28 November.

The administrator did not respond to our requests for comment, but in its last set of accounts the haulier said it employed 19 staff in 2024.

According to its website, News Transport had expanded from offering a courier service in Luton and was now an integral logistics partner to both national and international pallet networks and was a member of The Pallet Network.

“Since a change in ownership in 1973, News Transport has come a long way from the early days of providing courier services to the motor industry,” it said.

“Success brought expansion and, after outgrowing the original premises in Luton, News Transport moved to Ampthill in 1996. After a period of continued growth, News Transport invested in purpose-built premises in 2004.

“We offer a wide range of services, including same-day delivery, next-day and economy deliveries and collections, full load work, international shipments, and much more,” it added.

The haulier held an operator licence authorising 10 HGVs and six trailers running out of its Ampthill base but its surrender is now under consideration by the traffic commissioner.
