DX Group has opened a new depot in Preston, Lancashire, as part of its continuing drive to expand its parcels business.
This latest opening takes the total number of depots in the DX Express network to 41, with eight being opened in 2023. It forms part of the group’s ongoing capital investment programme, aimed at driving further growth.
The new depot will provide additional capacity for the group’s parcels network in the North-West. Located on a 1.4 acre site on the Preston Industrial Estate, it is close to both thee M6 and M65 motorways. The parcels business is part of the DX Express division.
The company said it will also reduce stem mileage, carbon emissions, improve operational efficiencies and enhance customer service levels, a key focus for the group.
Paul Ibbetson, DX Group chief executive, commented: “We are pleased to add this new depot in Preston to our DX Express division as part of our continued investment in the business.
”The new depot will enhance our position in the North-West, increasing the capacity and capability of our Parcels operation. It will deliver further efficiencies to our operations and provide local customer service benefits, always a priority for the Group. It will also lower carbon emissions by reducing stem mileage.
“We look forward to integrating this new depot into our existing network and continually improving the service that we provide to our customer.”
The deal is expected to become effective in the first quarter of 2024, but is still subject to the approval of DX shareholders.
In November DX Group reached an agreement with private equity firm HIG Capital which will see the US giant purchase the company for £315m. The deal is expected to become effective in the first quarter of 2024.
The purchase sees DX emerge from a troubled period for the group, which saw its shares suspended in 2022 over concerns about its accounts and a legal case brought against the group by the now defunct former Tuffnells Parcels Express that alleged that three DX staff had conspired to obtain daily customer service reports from Tuffnells in October 2020.
