The DVSA is introducing a new payment portal for fixed penalty roadside fines this month to replace chip and PIN payments.
The portal, which will be available from 29 January, will mean payments can be made from any location and at any time of the day by anyone nominated by the driver, for example an employer.
When a driver receives a fixed penalty at an enforcement site, they will provide DVSA with a telephone number or email address for themselves or their nominated payee.
DVSA will then send a link to the payment portal and a unique code by text message or email, and onsite enforcement staff will receive a text confirming receipt of payment.
Staff will release the vehicle once any other outstanding issues have been resolved and send an email or text receipt confirming payment.
The service will be also translated into in several languages.
