An HGV driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after his vehicle tipped on its side on a verge in Hartlepool.

The lorry, carrying wooden posts, blocked the A689 Stockton Road/Owton Manor Lane just after 9.30am on 30 October.

Pictures showed the truck flipped over on its passenger side on the verge of a roundabout.

Cleveland Police said a road closure was put in place whilst the area was cleared by council workers.

According to posts on social media it took most of the day to clear the road.

A police spokesperson said: “The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for a minor injury to his arm.

“A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.”
