A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between DAF Trucks and TotalEnergies committing both to the development of zero-emission solutions for road transport. The collaboration is designed to leverage DAF’s truck manufacturing experience with TotalEnergies’ background in multi-energy solutions.

Harald Seidel, president of DAF Trucks said: “This collaboration with TotalEnergies is a great opportunity to combine our respective expertise to offer our customers sustainable and innovative transport solutions. DAF is leading the way in battery electric vehicles, offering zero emission ranges of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge. The MoU provides enhanced opportunities to accelerate the transition to sustainable road transport solutions.”

Mathieu Soulas, senior vice president new mobilities at TotalEnergies said: “As a key partner of the road transport sector, we are delighted to collaborate with DAF and contribute to the decarbonisation of the industry. This partnership demonstrates TotalEnergies’ ability to provide concrete solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of its customers’ fleets. We need such pragmatic collaborations to make the Energy Transition happen.”

The agreement will focus on three key development areas to support the decarbonisation of road freight. Firstly, the partnership will explore opportunities for DAF customers to utilise TotalEngeries’ charging facilities and roaming services. TotalEnergies has agreements with a number of different companies to allow users of different charging apps and service providers to share the network.

The second target for this collaboration will look at accelerating the rollout of megawatt charging systems (MCS). Ultra-fast charging will enable vehicles to charge much more quickly and help operators to manage longer journeys with intermittent charging. It’s thought that megawatt charging will help to unlock the long-haul potential of eHGVs.

Lastly, the agreement will see TotalEnergies offer DAF a range of solutions to supply low carbon energy products to its manufacturing sites. This initiative is aimed at reducing DAF’s scope 1 and 2 emissions.
