Clipper Logistics Group has opened a new shared-user DC in Essex, which it hopes will improve service for retail customers in London and the South East.
Clipper will base 50 vehicles at the site, which is located at Pinnacles West in Harlow. It was chosen due to its proximity to ports and access to the trunk road network.
The site will house Clipper’s Regent Street deconsolidation operation, which involves making multiple deliveries to retailers in one journey. It also has a cross-dock operation for hanging garments.
Operations at Clipper’s former Enfield site have been transferred over the larger Harlow site, along with 90 staff.
Nigel Hinds, operations director at Clipper Logistics, said: “We had been searching for a larger site that can accommodate customer growth plans for a while, and the benefits of the Harlow location for ease of ‘cross dock’ operations are already apparent.”
