CitySprint has snapped up London delivery firm CYC Logistics as part of its ongoing expansion strategy.
The deal increases the same-day courier firm’s depot network to 40 and gives it a total courier workforce of nearly 3,000.
All operations and staff will transfer over from CYC on 28 November, with integration into the network planned to take place over the coming months.
CitySprint CEO Patrick Gallagher said: “Today’s acquisition, the second biggest in our history, is a major and exciting milestone for the business. Not only are we adding further scale and reach to our national business; we are building on our existing local knowledge base with some excellent people.”
Tony Fry, MD at CYC Logistics, said: “I am very proud of our fantastic people and customers, and am delighted to join forces with CitySprint. I certainly believe both companies will be stronger together and look forward to sharing the benefits with all of our clients and employees.”
In May, CitySprint said the acquisition of six courier firms last year contributed to an 11.4% increase in turnover for 2013. This year has also seen the company acquire Letchworth Couriers, Sky Blue Couriers and Network Logistics UK.
The firm also plans to take on an additional 300 couriers for the Christmas peak. It claims to have made 500,000 deliveries in November and December last year.
