Mansfield haulier Bowring Transport saw revenues decrease by 3.2% last year and group pre-tax profit more than halved to £494,000.
The company, which was formed in 1975 and has grown into one of the largest family-owned haulage businesses in the east Midlands, reported a turnover of £59.5m in the year ending 31 May 2025, down slightly from 2024’s £61.5m.
As well as haulage services, the group also sells and maintains agricultural machinery, equestrian and farm feed supplies and provides a metal fabrication service.
Revenues within its haulage division increased to £15.7m compared to £15m in the previous year, as a result of price increases and its gross margin increased by 3% as the company focused on using more of its own drivers rather than subbing the work out.
Its agricultural machinery business saw a reduction in turnover of 6%, which it said was mainly as a result of a significant decline in the UK agricultural machinery market.
“The group continues to face the current domestic economic issues of high inflation and much higher interest rates than in the past decade,” it said in a report.
“This presents extremely challenging times, however the solid foundations that the business has built over the years and the breadth and nature of our business provides us with a solid platform to remain a profitable going concern for years to come.”
