Guidance for hauliers relying on agency drivers has been produced following complaints from firms about the quality and conduct of agency staff.
The RHA said members had reported several issues after relying on temporary drivers and its best practice guidance covered the questions firms should ask driver agencies; the information agencies will require from them and what they should do when bringing in staff.
RHA MD Richard Smith said the guidance would also remind operators of their legal responsibilities: “It’s vital that hauliers arm themselves with the right questions when they’re going to agencies and ensure they have the right procedures in place for taking on drivers,” he said.
“Recruiting people through third parties can be a risky business, so we’re pleased to issue this guidance which will help firms make the best choices.”
