Advanced Biofuel Solutions (ABS) has won a £4.8m grant to convert household waste into biohydrogen for use in the transport sector.
Awarded as part of a competition launched by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the grant will help support the tech firm's project, undertaken in collaboration with Progressively Energy and University College London (UCL).
A spokesman for Progressive Energy said: “This ABS-led project is a significant area of technical development because the production of biohydrogen is not only valuable in its own right, but has the potential to enable early and significant contributions to greenhouse gas reductions via negative emissions.”
UCL added that the project would demonstrate carbon negative technologies at an industrially relevant scale.
