Hermes has launched an apprenticeship programme designed to help address the national LGV driver shortage, whilst developing its own people. The 12-month scheme has so far attracted 45 employees and will see them gain a Cat C licence and become a qualified LGV driver. Eddie Stobart is facing a third strike by its drivers based at Tesco’s Doncaster DC. Although the operator and Unite had been in talks via Acas in a bid to resolve the long-running jobs dispute, efforts to find a way forward have failed.
