Transport secretary Grant Shapps MP has given the go-ahead to the widespread use of longer semi-trailers (LSTs) on Britain’s roads. Biscuit and cake manufacturer United Biscuits has estimated it will save 450,000 truck miles and reduce carbon emissions by 618 tonnes a year after extending the number of longer semi-trailers it runs from 20 to 62.
There are still 400 longer semi-trailer allocations available, the DfT has said, and operators only have four weeks to apply for them.
