Rules surrounding Driver CPC training have been relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic for drivers struggling to complete the training.

The DfT said it had put in place temporary changes in professional driver qualification requirements, meaning drivers whose Driver CPC card expires in the period from 1 March 2020 to 30 September 2020 can continue driving.

In addition, the DfT said military drivers will also be allowed to drive in civilian situations during that period.

Drivers will not be subject to enforcement action by the DVSA in respect of the Driver CPC and police forces have been informed of this position.

The DfT also said drivers should carry their expired Driver CPC qualification card if they have it and that the end date would be kept under review.

Duncan Buchanan, RHA policy director, said: “We welcome an extension to the validity of Driver CPCs for those expiring during the current crisis. Keeping drivers and lorries available is vital right now to keep supply chains resilient.

“We encourage drivers to not wait until the end of the period to get up to date with Driver CPC qualification."
