Leeds Skelton Lake Services Aerial

Extra MSA Group has opened the first phase of its new £64m Leeds Skelton Lake Services.

The new motorway service area, which is located at Junction 45 of the M1, two miles east of Leeds, opened its doors this week but has been forced to limit its offering to essential services only during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Facilities that are open at the MSA during the COVID-19 lockdown include the fuel filling station, toilets and shower facilities, IONITY electric vehicle charging points and a small shop.

Once fully opened the MSA will also offer a range of food and retail outlets in the Food Court and Amenity building including Nando’s, Starbucks, Burger King, KFC, Leon, Pizza Express, Harry Ramsden’s, Upper Crust, Pasty Shop, Mi Casa, Chopstix and Urban Express.

The MSA also has a Wildlife Visitor Centre which will be operated by the RSPB.

Andrew Long, chief executive of Extra MSA Group, said: “In these unprecedented times, Extra is taking the necessary measures to ensure that those who need to move around the country, inclusive of the Yorkshire region, can do so safely, whilst taking all necessary and recommended ‘protection measures’ for our employees, customers and tenant ‘brand’ operating partners.”

“Keeping MSAs open is fundamental to the safe use of the UK strategic road network and whilst these are challenging times, the opening of Leeds Skelton Lake Services will provide additional ‘critical infrastructure’ facilities as are also important for the national and regional economy.”
