Trailer manufacturers are warning that cab manufacturers could delay the delivery of EU legislation aimed at improving truck and trailer aerodynamics. The draft legislation, which is out for consultation this month, aims to change current regulations on truck and trailer dimensions to allow for more rounded truck fronts and the addition of aerodynamic devices, such as boat tails, on the back of trailers. The proposed changes to the regulations could deliver operators fuel savings of up to 10% a year […]
The European Parliament (EP) voted yesterday (15 April) to approve European Commission (EC) proposals to allow more aerodynamic, safer truck designs.
The FTA has welcomed the approval by Transport MEPs of draft truck design rule changes, which will allow manufacturers to exceed current maximum length and weight dimensions.
Operators will not see longer, more aerodynamic truck cabs for at least another seven years after the European Parliament and EU countries last month agreed to prevent the introduction of such cabs until 2022.
