Grocery distribution and warehousing specialist Boughey Distribution is experiencing a surge in activity as customers make contingency plans in case of a no-deal Brexit.

Providing an update today in parent group NWF’s half-year results to 30 November 2018, chairman Philip Acton said Boughey Distribution was experiencing high activity rates.

He added this appeared to be being driven by customers “considering their options for storing additional stock as a contingency against a hard Brexit” and Boughey Distribution had benefitted from the limited warehouse capacity available in the UK.

Boughey Distribution saw revenue increase by 22.1% to £23.8m (2017: £19.5m) in the period with an operating profit of £1m (2017: £900,000).

The operator’s storage volumes increased to 96,000 pallet spaces at its Wardle site in the period thanks to business wins. This compared with 89,000 pallet spaces in the same period a year ago.

Boughey Distribution has also completed a trial with supermarket chain Aldi as a platform provider and expects the opportunity to develop further.

The company’s Palletline operation – based in Cheshire and set up in 2015 – continued to develop and the operator said it now had four customers making use of its e-fulfilment operations.

Half year dividend of one pence per share has been recommended by the group’s board of directors.
