Marks & Spencer is to try out a liquid nitrogen-powered transport refrigeration unit (TRU) on one of its semi-trailers as part of its CO2-reduction strategy. The zero-emission TRU, designed by clean cold technology firm Dearman, uses a liquid nitrogen-powered engine to operate the refrigeration system. Supermarket group Morrisons has renewed its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for the operation of two of its distribution centres in Scotland. The new contract, which extends ND’s involvement for a further two years, covers the 575,000ft² composite DC at Bellshill and the Eurocentral 85,000ft² fresh produce DC, also near Glasgow. Dairy producer Arla Foods has unveiled a new dual-purpose trailer to help eliminate empty running. The combination unit, constructed by Gray & Adams and Crossland Tankers, features a 19,000 litre milk tank with a refrigerated area above that can accommodate 85 milk cages or 22 pallets.
