Carole Walker has been promoted to CEO of Hermes Europe, with UK MD Martijn de Lange stepping into her shoes as UK CEO. The new appointments take effect from today (2 November). Hermes has revealed that each of its ParcelShops handled an average 60 parcels a week in the run up to Christmas, as more than 60,000 parcels were moved through the network during the festive period. An HMRC investigation into Hermes’ use of self-employed couriers could have implications for the entire parcels sector, according to an industry expert.
Hermes has revealed record results at its UK division, with revenue up 22% in 2011. The parcels company says this reinforces its position as the country’s second-largest home-delivery business. Revenue stood at €303m during 2011, up from €248m in the previous year.
