Felixstowe container haulier Searon Logistics, which employs more than 100 staff, has closed down. The operator told MT it had shut its doors and staff were “in the process” of being made redundant. Wincanton has signed a conditional agreement to dispose of the operations of its container business to Maritime for around £1.5m.
The limited company set up by sole trader James Shaw & Son when it purchased R Whittaker in 2018 has entered administration, with all the staff transferred over to the long-running business.
The introduction of peak-time charges as part of the Port of Felixstowe’s vehicle booking system (VBS) has been described as unacceptable by container hauliers. The port has started charging hauliers £1.50 per booking for access between 12pm and 5pm but has suspended proposals to introduce the charge between 5am and 7am.
