The Lincolnshire Co-op society is to close two DCs, putting 111 jobs at risk. The supermarket plans to close its two food DCs in Lincoln, which provide ambient goods to its 83 stores in the area. The Co-operative Group is expanding its back haul operation in a move that will save thousands of road miles and see 34,000 tonnes of food shop waste diverted from landfill.
Construction work on the Co-operative Group’s new £20m RDC in Avonmouth has been completed. Developers Gallan Group and Stoford have handed over the keys to the site at Cabot Park on Poplar Way to the supermarket chain. Deliveries into the RDC will begin this month, building up to full operation in May 2013 when the fitting out and stocking of the site will be complete. The dispute between Eddie Stobart and Unite threatens to run and run, after the union rejected the operator’s latest improved redundancy offer.
