DP World London Gateway’s logistics hub has this week been opened by transport minister Robert Goodwill. The first phase of the port’s Logistics Centre development, which is being operated by Southampton-based Import Services, comprises 180,000ft² of distribution and logistics space and 25,000ft² of office space. The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has thrown its weight behind the recent EU vote to allow truck manufacturers to exceed current maximum weight and dimensions limits. IOSH described the vote in favour as “a major step in the right direction to reduce deaths and major injuries on the road”.
Transport for London (TfL) has released its Olympic Freight Journey Planner, to help operators navigate the disruption London 2012 will bring this summer. The Pie Mapping developed planner calculates the most appropriate route for operators to take during the Games period based on the date and time of day and the vehicle’s dimensions.
