Scania is offering free activation and a ten-year subscription to its OnBoard Monitor telematics package for all operators of its trucks manufactured in 2011 onwards. MT Top 100 company Norbert Dentressangle has begun extending its use of an Isotrak telematics-based vehicle and driver monitoring system to another 140 vehicles within its tanker distribution division, bringing the total number of tankers covered by the technology to 260 across 31 different sites.
Growth in haulage rates slowed almost to a halt in the first three months of the year, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Average haulage rates grew by just 0.1% against a 2005 baseline in the first quarter of 2013, down from 0.2% during the final quarter of 2012, the latest Services Producer Price Index from the ONS has revealed.
The TRATON group, which includes Scania and MAN, believes the EU’s target of cutting carbon emissions from heavy trucks over 16 tonnes by 15% by 2025 can be achieved largely with conventional engine technology but the much tougher target of a 30% reduction by 2030 will require significant sales of alternative drive trains, mainly battery electric.
