Royal Mail has called for its regulator to protect it from last mile delivery competitors such as TNT Post, claiming that TNT’s expansion plans could cut £200m from its annual turnover. Whistl saw its pre-tax profit crash by more than 400% last year after ending its foray into the final mile delivery market, but predicts it will have recovered by the end of 2016.
Royal Mail began conditional trading on the London Stock Exchange this morning (11 October), with shares rising in value by over a third just an hour and a half into its listing.
