Pollock (Scotrans) has acquired Blackburn-based haulier Gilbraith (TS) for an undisclosed seven figure sum, giving the Scottish operator extended reach into north-west England. Gilbraith, which holds an O-licence for 30 vehicles and 35 trailers, is, like Pollock, a Palletways member. The Association of Pallet Networks (APN) has revealed a 16% increase in volumes for the first quarter of 2014 compared with the same period last year, with members delivering more than 4.6 million pallets between January and March.
The issue of significant downward rate-pressure remains the elephant in the room despite continued volume growth in the pallet sector, according to network heads.
