Total consumption of transport fuels in the UK decreased by 4.5% in Q1 2013 compared with the same period in 2012, new figures from the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have shown.
The data revealed that unleaded petrol deliveries fell 9.8% and diesel deliveries increased by just 0.6%, compared with the same period a year ago.
The reduction in deliveries of road fuels during the first quarter of the year was mainly due to the threatened tanker drivers' strike in March last year, which led to higher than normal demand during Q1 2012, said DECC's report.
Total deliveries of diesel during the first quarter of this year amounted to just over 6.25 billion litres, of which just over 3.86 billion litres (+0.5%) were to retail forecourts and 2.38 billion litres (+0.7%) were bulk deliveries, said DECC.
