Asda is more than doubling its electric grocery home shopping fleet and spending £1.3m launching an additional 112 home delivery vans and charging points at stores across the country.

The supermarket giant said that by September, 21 of its stores will operate a fully electric delivery van fleet, with the EVs expected to make over one million deliveries.

With a range of up to 130 miles, the electric vehicles will also help to save 1700kg of CO2 emissions per year.

Asda first rolled out electric delivery fleets at its stores in Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road and Sheffield Chaucer in 2023.

Emma Newton, senior director – ecommerce last mile for Asda, said: “We’re always looking at how we can better serve our customers and for new ways to reduce our carbon emissions as a business, so we’re delighted to be more than doubling our electric fleet of grocery home shopping vehicles.”

Last year, it also invested in two bio-LNG refuelling facilities, as the retailer continued towards reducing overall carbon emissions.

With over 780 vehicles, Asda operates the largest fleet of LNG fuelled trucks in the UK.
