DPD UK once again led the charge at the 2022 MT Awards, picking up three trophies – Clean Fleet Van Operator of the Year, Urban Operator of the Year and, for the ninth time in the last 10 years, the Customer Care Award.
DPD UK's total haul (including its forerunner Parceline) is now an amazing 39 trophies, stretching its lead over previous record holder TNT which notched up 33 wins before being taken by FedEx.
Reinforcing the fact that the MT Awards are for both own account and third party operators, DFDS Cold Chain England, Wren Kitchens and McCulla (Ireland) all picked up two trophies each, with DFDS taking the coveted Haulier of the Year for the first time. In another first, this category was partnered with a pure electric truck manufacturer in the form of Tevva.
Despite introducing its New Generation range last year, DAF continued its winning streak in Fleet Truck of the Year with its XF picking getting the judges’ vote for the fourth year in a row. Clean Fleet Van of the Year went to the Ford E-Transit, just pipping Maxus which won this award in the previous two years.
Mike Watson Transport and the Real English Drinks Distillery took the Partnership Award while Culina Group deputy CEO William Stobart was a popular winner of the Service to Industry Award.
The awards were hosted by TV sports presenter Clare Balding and the audience was once again wowed by the Mark De-Lisser singers and band. Boosted by a £7,000 winning bid from Asset Alliance Group for the top lot of a VIP trip to the Le Mans 24-hours race, the two auctions and sale of fun money for the casino raised almost £28,000 for charity Transaid.
The evening also saw the announcement of the three latest inductees to the Motor Transport Hall of Fame, Mike Daly, Lesley O’Brien and Bob Terris.
