UKRAINEAID

Ipswich firm Anchor Freight is calling on international hauliers to help them deliver aid donations to the Polish/Ukraine border.

The company is using its warehouse in the town as a hub to receive donations, from both the public and from businesses, which will be forwarded to help people in need in Ukraine.

It has put out a call for international hauliers that may be able to assist in getting the aid donations to the Polish/Ukraine border in the coming weeks.

The donations are being distributed via the company’s former Ukranian employee and friend Andrew Pituley, who is based on the westside of Ukraine.

Pituley’s six year old godson Markian Roman (pictured) has been sheltering in the basement of his home in Kyiv since the conflict began, with friend Susie, aged 6, and their respective mothers and grandmothers.

Anchor Freight is opening its warehouse for donations twice a week. Its latest session took place yesterday (Sunday, 6 March) and the next session will take place on Thursday (9 March) from 6pm to 8pm.

So far the company has received enough donations to part fill one trailer and said it may need the offer of other trailers in the near future to transport donations.

Hannah Keegan, Anchor Freight customs assistant manager, told MT: “We cannot sit back and watch this happening and fortunately we as a company have the resources to help. What we need now is the backing of the public and businesses to help us get donations over there.”

Keegan said the company is not seeking donations of warm clothing at the moment, having been inundated with generous donations of clothing last week, but added that the company is still in need of other donations (see list below) including wheelchairs.

“There are a lot of old and infirm people who are having great difficulty getting to the border, as you can imagine, so we really do need donations of wheelchairs,” Keegan said.

Anchor Freight is calling for donations of:

• Power Banks

• Sleeping Pads

• Sleeping Bags

• Torches

• First Aid Kits

• Nappies

• Female Sanitary Products

• Toiletries

• Camping Equipment

• Wheelchairs

The warehouse is located at Anchor Freight Ltd, 30A Whitehouse Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 5LT.
