Southampton’s Harris Transport has closed its doors, with around 70 staff sent home last Friday (10 August).

A spokesman for the haulier said: “The situation is that the company has ceased to trade and is arranging for customers to collect their goods.

“The company has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators and it is anticipated that the company shall be placed into administration early next week.”

The spokesman confirmed that 15 staff of the 70 had been retained to assist in dealing with the third party goods on site.

Husband and wife team Colin and Pauline Harris set up Harris Transport in the summer of 1991 with three trucks.

Its current directors are sons George and Derek Harris. The company holds O-licences authorising up to 45 vehicles and 40 trailers according to DVSA records.

The haulier has its headquarters in Eastleigh, Southampton and a location at Braithwell, Rotheram and offered warehousing, containers services and UK and European distribution.
