Multi-Motor Transport Award winning parcels carrier DPDgroup is set to introduce a new service later this year that will allow its customers to choose their own hour-long delivery slot.

DPD Precise, which should be running by the summer according to chief executive Dwain McDonald,  follows in the footsteps of its Predict software platform, which was the first home delivery service to whittle delivery slots down to an hour.

The new service will come at no extra cost to DPD customers, McDonald told Motortransport.co.uk.

He said: “What we're trying to do is think of sexy, exciting new things which we don't charge any more money for. If it slots into our optimisation engine, which is what we're building it for, then technically it doesn't cost me, so I can pass that back to the customer.”

DPD will also launch a new consumer app in March this year, which McDonald said  “will completely change the way people look at home delivery, with loads more options for customers than there are now”.

McDonald said DPD might not be able to offer Precise to all of its customers – “it might have to be a select few”, he explained.

“But I don't want to be known as the guy who did Predict any more,” he added. “I want people to be saying, DPD has that new fabulous new service called Precise.”
