C&S Transport has added a Volvo FH 460 with a HIAB X-HiPro 1058 E-8 crane, supplied by MV Commercial, to its fleet to help it win new business.
The Ripponden-based company, which specialises in the transport of portable and modular buildings, said the lifting range of the unit is attracting new clients to the business.
The HIAB crane, which can lift 18,000kg at four metres and 3,450kg at a maximum outreach of 19.4m, has increased the company’s potential to do jobs involving heavy lifting at long ranges.
The Volvo rigid is also specified with NATO front legs that allow for a full 360 degree slew, whilst the the HIAB X-HiPro 1058 E-8, which has been fitted with a winch, gives improved ability to work at height.
Matt Lassey, co-owner of C&S Transport, said: “It’s fantastic. The Volvo FH 460 inside has a digital dash which is truly superb and the HIAB crane is an absolute winner. It does everything you want it to do and is an excellent bit of kit.”
The FH 460 joins C&S Transport’s vehicle fleet, which includes three Volvo units with HIAB cranes, a DAF flatbed and an Isuzu 3.5-tonne Grafter. Each covers around 90,000km per year.
Lassey said: “The crane offers more reach than our other HIABs enabling heavy lifting and, with its 360 degree lifting capability, it allows us to operate in places that many other companies won’t venture to.
“We’ve definitely won more business. A lot of our rivals don’t have this type of vehicle so we can undertake tasks they can’t. It’s a big advantage.
“We can also be quicker and more efficient completing jobs. For instance, if we’re just doing lifts on one site, we often park the truck in one position and move it all from there. Before, you’d have to load everything on and keep moving the truck.
“The crane’s lifting capacity really saves us time and we can get more work done in a day.”
Lassey added: “Our drivers absolutely love it. I’m an owner-driver as well as running the business, so I am out driving the new truck myself. With its high-spec cab, there are lots of driver comforts and it’s really fuel efficient.”
The company said it has built up a strong relationship with MV Commercial over more than 10 years and Lassey added that he also appreciates the one-stop package the company offers.
“I’ve had trucks from MV Commercial for a long time now," he said. "What I like about them is that they offer the whole package. They arrange the painting and livery and finalise all aspects of the detailed specification including laser lights and alloy wheels.
“The trucks really look the part and have helped win more work. People notice us more, so it’s very good for our business.”
