The collapse of Surfair Global Logistics has left more than 80 unsecured creditors facing losses amounting to over £1.1m, according to a report by the firm’s administrator Milner Boardman & Partners.
The Derbyshire-based company's Irish distribution partners were hit particularly hard when it went into voluntary liquidation last month.
Dublin-based Landbridge Logistics is owed £125,858, Enniskillen logistics company A1 Transport is facing losses of £119,502 and PMP Transport of Armargh and Lurgan-based Woolsey Freight are seeking repayments of £65,652 and £49,936 respectively.
Surfair’s also owes The Pallet Network £29,152 and The United Pallet Network (UPN),which it was a member of, £65,671.
Other Surfair creditors include Nelson Logistics in Derby (£33,680), Sheffield-based PT Hire (£141,607) Ryder (£20,301), Streamline Shipping Agencies in Aberdeen (£22,386), Leicester haulier Bluestone Transport (£15,893), Dyson Industries (£19,216) and Hinckley-based Grant Logistics (£10,750).
Following Surfair’s collapse, Landbridge Logistics acted to cut its losses, opening a UK base on the same site as Surfair’s HQ in Woodville, Derbyshire, and taking on a number of Surfair’s Irish clients along with ten of Surfair’s staff.
Surfair Logistics was set up in 2011 by MD Paul Cannon. His former posts include director of Transafe (Training), sales director at RSE Sandbach and MD of Leyland-based Road & Sea Express Group Limited, which was dissolved in 2009.
Surfair Logistics became a UPN pallet network member in March 2015, expanding its coverage for the network last September. It operated from a 15,240m² depot near Woodville, Derbyshire, a coastal hub at Immingham and depots in Belfast, Dublin, and Cork.
In 2014 the company, which ran a fleet of 17 vehicles and 14 trailers, rebranded from Surfair Global Logistics to Surfair Logistics as part of an expansion drive. This saw it invest in new warehousing, expand its fleet and boost staff numbers.
