Scania (Great Britain) is focusing on sustainability and safety at this year’s Freight in the City Expo, with three models from the company’s urban truck range on display.
In addition, visitors will be able to get an exciting glimpse into the future of urban deliveries and research and development taking place today from Anders Lampinen, director of new technologies at Scania CV AB.
Scania is once again a headline event partner to Freight in the City Expo, taking place on 6 November at Alexandra Palace.
Vincente Connolly, UK sales director for Scania (Great Britain), said: "The rate of urbanisation occurring today makes Freight in the City Expo an extremely important occasion for our industry as it gives us all an opportunity to discuss and consider the urban challenges we face going forward.
“Two of the most pressing of these challenges are sustainability and the safety of vulnerable road users, both of which have long been key focus areas for Scania.
“We very much look forward to welcoming guests to Freight in the City Expo 2019 and presenting our products, ideas and concepts to them."
The vehicles on show on the Scania stand at will be:
Scania L 320 6x2*4LB Hybrid
Freight in the City 2019 represents the first public showing of a Scania L-series hybrid truck.
The vehicle's hybrid powertrain combines a 320hp Scania DC09 126 Euro 6 diesel engine with a 177hp (130kW) electric machine, which sits between the engine and a Scania GRS895 gearbox equipped with Scania's Opticruise fully automated gear-selection system.
It can be driven in electric-only mode, or in combination with diesel, biodiesel or HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).
When used with renewable fuel, Scania said emissions of carbon dioxide are reduced by up to 92%.
The truck features a steering rear-axle for maximum manoeuvrability, and has a five-star rating under TfL's Direct Vision Standard scheme. To achieve this, the low datum L-series cab is equipped with Scania's City Safe passenger door window.
Scania L 360 B8x4*4NB
Also fully compliant with TfL's five star Direct Vision Standard, this vehicle will be displayed in the livery of Purfleet-based City Lifting, which in 2018 became the UK's first operator of a new generation Scania L-series truck.
In common with the L-series hybrid being exhibited, this vehicle is also equipped with Scania's City Safe passenger door window.
Scania P 320 B6x2*4NA
Equipped with a Scania P-series cab featuring a Scania City Safe passenger door window, this truck has a three star TfL Direct Vision Standard rating.
The vehicle has a rear-steering axle for maximum manoeuvrability and is fitted with a dropside body and grab, and as such is intended for use as a builder's merchant truck.
