Tufnells Parcels Express is seeing a rapid response to its plea for logistics firms to take on some of its 2,200 staff, who are facing redundancy after the IDW carrier was forced to call in the administrators yesterday (12 June).

As the company's 2,200 staff were told that the “majority” of them face redundancy, Tuffnells HR team put out a call on social media sites for logistics companies with vacancies to contact the team urgently.

Writing on Linkedin yesterday, Sue Bancroft, Tuffnells HR director said: “Thank you to everyone who is reaching out after the devastating news about Tufnells Parcels Express.

“If you have vacancies please could I ask that you send me a direct message with your contact details so that your details can be included with letters going out this week.”

Companies quickly rallied to her plea. Paul Wilkinson, managing director of healthcare logistics specialist Movianto, said the company has a range of vacancies, including HGV driver, transport operations and fleet compliance roles.

“The failure today of Tuffnells Parcels Express will have a devastating impact on the lives of so many. Many of Its 2,000-strong workforce would have been significantly contributing to their household incomes, to have this cut off without notice will undoubtedly bring further hardship at a time when many can barely keep pace with the cost of living as it is," he said.

He added: “I hope that the wider logistics industry will also put in place a fast-track process to enable all our opportunities to be made speedily available to those affected. We need to work together to ensure as many as possible can get back into employment quickly.”

DPD is also offering Tuffnells staff job opportunities. Responding to Bancroft's call Tony White, DPD operations manager, said the parcels giant has driver, warehousing and managerial vacancies in North London, and offered his sympathies.

He said: “Reaching out to those in my network that have been affected by the recent news coming out of Tuffnells… Firstly, my heart goes out to you all - none of us would want to be in your position after giving so much to a company. All of us in the logistics industry know how much you have to put into this game.”

Craig Richardson, Evri head of resourcing, also stepped in with job offers. He said: “Reaching out to all Tuffnells employees. We understand that the recent news of Tuffnells going into administration has left many of you searching for new job opportunities and uncertain about your future in the delivery industry.

Offering a "warm invitation to all Tuffnells workers" he said job opportunites at Evri include delivery drivers, warehouse loaders, customer service representatives, and management roles, and promised “comprehensive training, competitive compensation packages, and a supportive work culture.”

Healthcare company Baxter International was also quick to rally to Bancroft's call. Amit Mistry, chartered senior HR business partner, said: "It is sad to hear the news about Tuffnells Parcels Express going into administration.

"I would like to reach out to all colleagues who worked at Tuffnells in the Brackmills site to contact me directly for any opportunities at our national distribution Centre in Brackmills.

"We have a number of warehouse, customer service and other roles available which would be a perfect fit for you."
