Menzies

Menzies Distribution has snapped up Inverness-based AJG Parcels in a £7.5m deal that allows it to enter the e-commerce parcel market.

The logistics firm said the purchase would also help it appeal to companies seeking cost-efficient deliveries to the North and rural West of Scotland.

According to Menzies, AJG Parcels began 20 years ago and now employs 140 staff making around 9,000 deliveries and 800 pick-ups every day.

It said the acquisition would “unlock the potential of the business in daylight hours”, as it has traditionally focused on overnight deliveries.

Menzies Distribution MD Forsyth Black said the purchase was “especially significant because it allows us to participate in the fast-growing market of parcel delivery and collection.”

A spokeswoman added that there were no plans to make any redundancies following the deal.

AJG Parcels reported a pre-tax profit of £1.7m on a turnover of £8.8m for the year ending June 2014.
