MAN HGV e-trucks will begin rolling off the production line in early 2024, almost a year earlier than planned, the manufacturer has announced.
MAN truck & Bus, which is promising prompt delivery of an initial 200 units in 2024, is also developing a range of e-Mobility solutions and charging options.
Alexander Vlaskamp, chief executive of MAN Truck & Bus, said: “We need to drive the electrification of our fleet even faster. However, we will only succeed in ramping up e-mobility if we support our customers in their transition and convince them to do so. To this end, we are creating integrated digital solutions and charging offers.”
MAN presented a near-production prototype of the new electric truck at an event in Nuremberg last week.

The manufacturer is also intensifying its research into using hydrogen to power trucks and is currently developing a hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck together with Bosch, Faurecia and ZF in a partnership known as the Bavarian Project.
The hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck will be delivered to five German logistics companies, including DB Schenker and Rhenus Logistics, in the summer of 2024. The five operators will test the truck in real-life operations for one year.
Speaking at the Nuremberg event, Vlaskamp said: “MAN is accelerating its transformation and taking big steps towards emission-free drive systems. Our focus at MAN and in the TRATON Group is clearly on battery-electric drives. They form the basis for our heavy-duty e-trucks, which we will be launching on the market from 2024.
“Only when sufficient green hydrogen and the corresponding infrastructure are available well after 2030 do we expect to use H2 trucks in selected areas of application. That is why we are researching the topic of hydrogen and the funding from the state of Bavaria enables us to build up further expertise in the field."
