Emphasis on logistics boosts Gordon Leslie Group

A continued move from straight transport to logistics activities including warehousing, packing and freight forwarding helped Glasgow-based Gordon Leslie Group achieve a 20% rise in pre-tax profit in the year to 30 September 2012. Turnover in the year fell around 8% to £4.8m (2011: £5.2m), but profit before tax came in at just over £487,000 (2011: £405,000). Miniclipper grows business and fleet

Miniclipper Logistics has expanded its operations and vehicle fleet due to increased demand for warehousing from existing customers, as well as new business wins. The operator has taken on an 87,000ft² warehouse a mile from its main base in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, boosting its overall warehousing capacity to 200,000ft². FTS Hatswell looking to expand warehousing capacity

Pall-Ex member FTS Hatswell wants to expand its storage capacity further since moving into bigger premises in June last year. It moved into the new 67,500ft² warehouse in on the Deeside industrial estate in Flintshire last summer, extending its operation that was previously based there and increasing its storage capacity to 185,000ft² over three sites. Sheldon Clayton buys CFT’s Wednesbury operation

West Bromwich-based Sheldon Clayton Group has acquired the Wednesbury, West Midlands operation of Manchester warehousing and transport firm CFT Services for an undisclosed sum. The move will see all 30 staff at CFT’s Wednesbury operation move to Sheldon Clayton’s 12-acre, West Bromwich site. Norbert Dentressangle takes Liberty

Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has picked up a new European warehousing and distribution deal with cable company Liberty Global. ND will establish Liberty’s European DC in Venray, the Netherlands, along with a number of regional DCs, the first of which opened last month in Switzerland. Fresh supermarket win for Wincanton

Wincanton has won a multi-million pound, five-year contract to set up and run a new DC in London for supermarket giant Morrisons. The deal will see Wincanton handle transport and warehousing for Morrisons from a 100,000sq-ft cross-dock facility to open in Feltham, west London early next year. Liverpool-based nut processor and packer Trigon Snacks has awarded a new contract for warehousing and distribution of its brands, including Planters and BigD, to Culina. Under the deal, Trigon products will be stored at Culina’s Middleton depot, near Manchester, and delivered using a shared user-model to wholesalers and retailers throughout the UK. Wincanton expands B&Q contract

Wincanton has secured a multi-million pound extension on its contract with B&Q, taking on management of an additional warehouse. The firm will manage B&Q’s one million ft² showroom fulfilment centre in Burton-on-Trent, which provides warehousing for the retailer’s bathroom, bedroom and kitchen range.
