DHL takes a five-year slice of Warburton’s primary logistics

DHL Supply Chain has won a five-year contract with Warburtons to manage the bread-maker’s primary logistics supply chain. The deal will see DHL set up a control tower operation, based at Warburtons’ Bolton site, which will manage the distribution of up to two million loaves of bread, rolls and crumpets daily between the manufacturer’s 12 bakeries and 13 depots across the UK. Norbert Dentressangle wins Comet logistics contract

Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has won a £100m, five-year deal with electrical retailer Comet to handle its UK warehousing and distribution. The contract involves ND managing store picking, dispatch and returns management at Comet’s RDCs in Skelmersdale, Lancs and Harlow, Essex. It will also bulk pick product for trans-shipment into Comet’s network of 12 home-delivery platforms. Wincanton hopes tanker drivers will end dispute

DBL Logistics plans second DC with £1.8m HSBC backing

United Pallet Network member DBL Logistics has secured £1.8m of funding from HSBC to expand the business with a new 50,000ft² Sheffield DC. Due for completion in January 2013, the new site will run in tandem with DBL’s existing 25,000ft² facility in the Sheffield Business Park, and the company hopes additional volumes will boost its annual turnover, currently £3m per year. DPD announces extra staff and depot for Olympics

DPD is to deploy and additional 200 staff and open an extra London depot to minimise disruption resulting from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Culina Group has acquired the supply chain activities of Cert Octavian for an undisclosed amount, as it continues with its strategy to double the business in the next five years. Clipper Logistics wins Swedish clothing contract

Clipper Logistics has won a new contract with Swedish children’s clothes retailer Polarn O. Pyret. It sees Clipper provide logistics from its Ollerton facility, as well as a warehousing arrangement that will allow expansion of Polarn’s current product range and offer store replenishment it its second phase, reducing the lead time of stock from Sweden. Sainsbury’s gets FTA Van Excellence accreditation

Sainsbury’s has received accreditation to the FTA’s Van Excellence scheme, the 25th van operator to do so since the scheme began in 2010. The retailer runs a fleet of 1,400 vans, and employs some 4,000 drivers, and it satisfactorily achieved the standards laid out in Van Excellence code – which are agreed by a governance group of leading van fleet operators.
