Advanced Supply Chain (ASC) has won a three-year contract with Matalan to handle the fashion chain’s pre-retail distribution. The deal will see ASC deliver approximately 10 million garments a year to Matalan’s DCs. The Widdowson Group has been appointed as the Midlands logistics partner for Waitrose, the first time a third party has been selected by the supermarket to cover this region of the country. UK Mail Group’s depot closure programme will cost it approximately £2m as it looks to continue to cut costs. In a pre-close trading update for the year ended 31 March, UK Mail says the closure of four depots in the past 12 months will leave it with a low-cost and integrated network. Hermes has been awarded a five-year contract with fashion chain New Look to handle the home delivery of the retailer’s e-commerce orders. Delivering more than three million parcels per year to UK households, the goods will first be collected from New Look’s fulfilment hub in Lichfield, Staffs, before being transported to Hermes’ NDC in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. NFT has beaten rivals to a primary logistics contract with Adams Foods, that will run for a minimum of three years. Operated from NFT’s flagship Daventry DC, the deal will include the handling of more than 3,500 pallets per week of cheese and butter products, including Kerrygold and Pilgrims’ Choice brands. Gefco revenue up ahead of “decisive year”

Gefco, the logistics arm of PSA Group, saw its global revenue rise 12.9% in 2011 as it prepares to embark on what it describes as a “decisive year” for the company. For 2011 Gefco reported global revenue of €3.8bn, compared to €3.4bn a year ago, and an operating income of €223m (2010: €198m). Excluding its PSA business, revenue was up 19.2% to €1.4bn. Norbert Dentressangle (ND) says it has invested more than £1m in a new shared-user site at Rugby, to serve as an NDC for Continental Tyre Group.
