New finance director for NWF Group

NWF Group, parent of Boughey Distribution, has recruited Brendon Banner as its new group finance director. Banner, who will take up his role in early November, is currently group finance director at steel engineering and fabrication group William Hare. He replaces Jonathan Ford, who is leaving NWF at the end of September to take up the role of chief financial officer at HomeServe. Stobart Group sees no let-up in tough trading conditions

Eddie Stobart to expand hybrid fleet

Eddie Stobart is to expand its fleet of dual-fuel Volvo trucks, after successfully bidding for a chunk of the government’s Low Carbon Truck Demonstration Scheme funding. Stobart has been testing five dual-fuel  FMs, which have been running on Liquid Natural Gas (LNG), in association with partner BOC Group. Hermes expands South East depot capacity

Parcel specialist Hermes is to open two depots in the South East as it prepares for the Christmas peak. A 52,000 ft² warehouse in West Thurrock, Essex, will be located between Lakeside Shopping Centre and the QE2 Bridge near to the A13 and M25. Hermes will create 60 new jobs at the site in management, administration, warehousing and driver roles. UPS offer period for TNT to run until November

UPS has confirmed that the offer period for TNT Express shares will now run until 9 November. It comes after TNT Express confirmed earlier this month that the European Commission had temporarily suspended the takeover to allow regulators more time to gather information. Regardless, the companies still expect the deal to be sealed by the fourth quarter of this year. The  €5.16bn (£4.07bn) takeover will transform UPS into a €45bn company with global reach.

Royal Mail to revamp final mile parcel service

Royal Mail is planning a nationwide roll out of its ‘Delivery to Neighbour’ service in late September, to bring its final mile service more in line with competitors. Turnover up 8% at NFT as profit jumps too

Chilled food distribution specialist NFT has seen  its turnover and pre-tax profit rise at the same time as signing a five-year refinancing package with HSBC. Turnover increased by 8% to £152.4m for the year-ending 31 March, from £140.9m a year ago. Pre-tax profit rose 60% from £1.4m to £2.2m. TNT Express confirm UPS merger delay

TNT Express has confirmed that the European Commission has temporarily suspended a merger bid with rival postal company UPS.
