International transport development chaity Transaid has outlined some of its planned to raise money for its vital work in 2023, Transaid's 25th anniversay year.
Next year will see the return of the popular London to Paris cycle challenge which will take place between September 21 and 25. The ride and will involve cycling 187 miles across magnificent English countryside and picturesque rural French landscapes.
The group will depart from Greenwich Observatory on 22 September and pedal to Paris over three full days of cycling. The route comprises a mixture of on-road and traffic-free sections, running primarily on quieter rural roads.
Florence Bearman, Transaid’s acting co-chief executive, said: “Our first ever European cycle challenge was to Paris in 2012, and it proved so successful we returned on our bikes again in 2017. Naturally it has a special place in our hearts, and we are delighted to mark Transaid’s silver jubilee with a return to this beautiful city, this time following a different route.
“Our cycle challenges are incredibly popular and offer a fantastic chance for supporters to raise essential funds for our life saving programmes. London to Paris will be a great opportunity to network with colleagues from across the industry, both during the ride and in a series of team meals – culminating in a well-deserved celebratory dinner on the final night.”
The registration fee is £149 and riders need to raise a minuimum of £1,800 in sponsorship.
Transaid is also a partner with Run for Charity which gives supporters access to more than 750 challenge events in the UK and abroad. Most are running events including marathons, half marathons, 5k and 10k runs, but there are also triathlons and obstacles races.
It has selected some early 2023 flagship running events including the Manchester Marathon, Brighton Marathon, Barcelona Marathon and Edinburgh Marathon.
And for 2023 Transaid is trying something new - the Transaid Football Cup
On July 13 it will be holding a football tournament at Ilkeston Town, in collaboration with Libra Europe and Microlise.
The charity is looking to recruit 16 corporate teams (mixed gender) with seven players a side and a squad of up to 10 players. It is also looking for players to join a Transaid team to enter the competition.
So whether you are a runner, cyclist or footballer there is something for everyone in 2023.
