Strike action among 1,000 GXO draymen has been suspended following what the Unite union described as “a much improved pay offer” by the logistics firm.
The first round of strikes was due to commence on 31 October and run until Friday 4 November, but this has now been put on hold while union members are balloted on GXO’s new offer.
HGV drivers at 22 GXO sites were due to stop work, which Unite claimed would cause problems for pubs and other venues in the run up to the football World Cup.
The union claimed that its members had rejected a 5% pay increase and added that GXO was also demanding a reduction in sick pay.

However, GXO described this as inaccurate and misleading and added that sick pay was not affected.
Unite national officer for food, drink and agriculture Joe Clarke, said: “Following a significantly improved pay offer from GXO the strike action planned for next week has been suspended as an act of good faith.”
A GXO spokesman said: “We are pleased the union recognised the competitiveness of our offer.
“We are committed to ensuring our employees benefit from competitive pay and benefits, and an inclusive, collaborative culture that rewards performance.”
