Amethyst Group has landed a logistics contract with Toys R Us as the retailer launches its return to the UK market as an e-commerce business.

Toys R Us, which was liquidated in 2018 after filing for bankruptcy the previous year, is targeting the e-commerce market, returning as an online store in time for Christmas.

Mike Coogan, director of Toys R Us UK, said: “We are delighted to be back up and running within the UK market and have chosen Amethyst to work with us on the e-fulfilment part due to their extensive experience and expertise.”

Amethyst Group has over 30 years’ experience working with major brands in the toy sector including Leapfrog, Ravensburger, and Bandai.

One in five of all the toys bought in the UK is delivered to retailers via Amethyst warehousing and distribution.

The company said it operates three dedicated warehouses and a specialist management, operations and admin team to ensure “total focus” on achieving the volumes and service levels required by its clients in the sector.

Allan Fosbrook, the group’s sales director welcomed the partnership deal with Toys R Us, describing the company as a “national treasure”.

The operation will be run from Amethyst’s facility in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. It has a three-tier mezzanine floor totalling 80,000ft2 and space for 47,000 pallets.
