Haulage firms in Scotland helped raise more than £100,000 for charity this week at the inaugural Scottish Transaid Dinner.

In total, £105,110.50 was raised at the Bothwell Bridge Hotel near Hamilton, thanks to sponsorship and donations from the industry, ticket sales and the live and silent auctions.

Florence Bearman, Transaid head of fundraising, said: “We are absolutely amazed and delighted with the amount of money raised.

“It is such a testament to the generosity and ongoing support of the Scottish haulage industry to Transaid, and this money will ensure we can continue our life saving work across sub-Saharan Africa.”

The dinner was organised by a committee headed up by retired Scottish traffic commissioner Joan Aitken who is now national chair of Transaid, and includes Nicola Robertson (Malcolm Group), Lynsey Mitchell (John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing) and John Henderson.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but it was derailed by the Covid-19 pandemic and cancelled.
