Commercial vehicle dealer Guest Truck and Van is trialling solar panel technology at its head office in West Bromwich with the aim of providing enough power to charge its fleet of electric vehicles.

The company is also looking at fitting solar panel technology at all of its 13 service locations.

The investment is part of Guest truck and Van’s wider sustainability strategy which has also seen more than 60% of its fleet transition from diesel to either electric or hybrid vehicles.

MD Robert Spittle, said: “Every commercial organisation, regardless of size or sector, is looking at how it can reduce the impact of its operations on the environment.

“The investment in solar panels at West Bromwich is our first step towards looking at how this concept works for us on a daily basis.

“We are experimenting with this for a few months and will reassess at the end of the trial period, perhaps looking at battery investment once we have a greater understanding of the power produced and the consumption we need.

“We believe that on a sunny day, the panels will provide for all of our electrical needs for the site, and even on a dull day, there will be enough power output to recharge our electric vehicles.

“We are also continuing to find creative new solutions for our customers exploring and utilising alternative fuels in order to ensure their fleets are as environmentally friendly as possible, while still being effective for their purpose and requirements,” he added.
