The DVSA has warned HGV drivers they will be slapped with £300 fines and sent to the back of the queue if they are caught violating traffic rules on Kent roads this summer.

The enforcement agency said it was expecting a high level of congestion over the next three weekends due to increased summer holiday traffic.

During the recent half term holiday it said some hauliers caused congestion by deliberately violating traffic management guidance and jumping the queue.

In a statement, the DVSA said: “We thank the majority of hauliers who followed the signposted routes.

“Because some didn’t, we will have additional enforcement teams in Kent during this busy period.

“They will intercept drivers who are trying to bypass the queues by using other roads.”

It added: “Any vehicles caught violating traffic management guidance will be issued with a £300 fine and sent to the back of the queue.”
