Global logistics firm Brambles has announced a plan to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, bringing its original target forward by a decade.
It said it was working with internal and external consultants to create a roadmap with targets that would ensure its ambitions became a reality across five continents and 60 countries.
Among a host of targets, Brambles said it would also maximise the recovery and reuse of its pallets and containers, move towards renewable electricity, reduce empty running, deploy alternative fuels and zero emission transport technologies and reduce the volume of waste destined for landfill.
The company is branded as Chep in the UK and originally aligned itself with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement to achieve net zero by 2050: “Global warming is one of the greatest challenges of our time and we need stronger action now,” explained Juan José Freijo, Brambles chief sustainability officer.
“Brambles has a track record of reducing emissions through its circular business model, a range of innovative initiatives and its past achievements.
“These targets are an important next step in a journey that we started years ago.
“Adopting science-based targets and bringing the net-zero deadline forward by ten years accelerates our mission to build a regenerative supply chain.”
