Less than half of logistics and coach firms rate England’s major roads positively, with rest facilities and clearing up after accidents attracting the lowest satisfaction ratings, according to a survey.
Independent watchdog Transport Focus said just 46% of those polled were satisfied with England’s motorways and ‘A’ roads; 25% were dissatisfied and 29% were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
It said that although the availability of live travel information was rated better than information for planning ahead, less than half of respondents said they were satisfied.
Information about roads not opening on time after roadworks rated lower still.

Businesses said roadworks should be delivered in shorter lengths and that clear and accurate information should be provided about planned road closures, including when works were not going to be completed on time.
They also called for improved roadside facilities for HGVs.
Anthony Smith, Transport Focus CE, said: “Freight and coach businesses, whose work is vital to our lives and the economy, have told us clearly that there is more to do to meet their needs.
“We’ll continue our work with National Highways to keep these issues top of mind and get the improvements that these key users of England’s major roads want.”
The poll comes just a month after Roadchef found that the M6 toll road was the country’s most enjoyable motorway, according to truckers.
It also found that the vast majority – 95% - believe the UK is home to the best motorways in the world.
