Applications for financial support for HGV operators affected by the forthcoming Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone (CAZ) will launch at the end of next month, according to the transport body delivering the plan.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said its CAZ is due to be rolled out on 30 May 2022, with an ambition to bring down nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels on local roads to within legal limits.

More than £120m in government funding has been secured to support eligible businesses, people and organisations in the region to move towards cleaner vehicles through grants and finance options.

TfGM said that from 30 November applications will be open for financial support to upgrade or retrofit HGVs.

It also said its clean air vehicle checker is now live, enabling vehicle owners to find out how they will be impacted and whether they are eligible for support.

Last year, TfGM announced it was delaying the CAZ launch until Spring 2022, prompting the RHA to question whether it was needed.
