Hermes UK has opened another pop-up distribution depot, this time at Meteor Park in Birmingham.

The delivery firm said the move created 135 seasonal jobs at the 112,000 sq ft warehouse, which opened ahead of the peak Black Friday and Christmas periods.

The depot can handle over 120,000 parcels each day and can operate 24/7 if needed.

Hermes said the pop-up depot formed part of its investment programme to expand its capacity to meet the huge demand created by people shopping at home during lockdown and the continuing growth in the sector.

Michael Duffy, depot manager, said: “It has been an unprecedented year for the parcel delivery industry and with the festive season fast approaching it’s fantastic to be opening a new depot for Hermes where business continues to grow.

“This pop-up depot will allow us to provide much needed job opportunities within Birmingham during these uncertain times.”

Earlier this month, Hermes opened a pop-up depot in Eccles, Manchester.
